Things to Know About Eye Tests

Vision loss is a serious health problem, and you need to go for effective eye tests to detect potential problems. According to NHS, we should get our eyes tested in every two years. We can prevent 50% of sight loss through these eye tests. People can avail the following benefits of eye tests:

  • Regular eye check-ups can improve the quality of your day-to-day life, and you can get your vision corrected through these eye tests.
  • A doctor can detect potential eye problems like cataracts and glaucoma through these tests.
  • Poor vision could be a risk factor, and you cannot drive your car with vision problems. So, you must consult a doctor if you have any such issues and get your eyes tested as soon as possible.
  • An optometrist can spot the signs of some health problems through these tests, and they can detect diabetes and high blood pressure.
Eye Tests

We can feel the pain in our other body parts, and we can consult a doctor to get rid of the pain. In the case of eyes, you may not feel the same, and you can avoid your eye problems. As a result, you will suffer from severe vision loss, and you must go for eye surgery. To avoid such problems, you can go for eye check-ups. An optometrist prescribes glasses for your eyes, and they can detect eye problems like amblyopia.

What are the benefits of eye tests?

According to the World Health Organisation, more than 80% of blindness is preventable, and people can easily avoid such problems through regular eye check-ups. If you ignore such eye tests, then you can miss the chance of full recovery, and you cannot protect your vision. You need to provide your eye-test reports to your employers, and you cannot join the army, defense, and scientific industry without getting your eyes tested. Accurate vision is necessary for certain fields, and you need to be prepared for the same.

Different types of eye tests:

  • Visual acuity test: In this, the optometrist will conduct this eye test in his or her chamber, and you need to read the letters from a sign. The sign is positioned a specific distance away, and an optometrist will check your vision by using some glasses.

  • Radioscopy: A machine called a phoropter is used in this test, and it helps your optometrist with an optical lens prescription. An optometrist will change the lenses in front of your eyes, and he or she will also focus light into your eyes. So, it will determine the reflective vision of your eyes.
  • Refraction test: An optometrist can prescribe eyeglasses after this test. He or she will look into the phoropter and ask you to check the eye chart positioned on the opposite wall. Your optometrist can use a series of the lens for this test, and he or she will prescribe your eyeglasses based on your answer. These eye test will help your optometrist determine whether your eyes are nearsighted, farsighted, or affected by astigmatism.
  • Keratometry test: This eye test can measure the shape and curve of your cornea. If you have an elongated shaped cornea, then you can suffer from astigmatism and you must go for this test to check your eyes. The doctor will use a machine for this test, and he or she will adjust the machine to check the cornea's shape.

Proper examination of the eyes can also help in the early detection of stages of glaucoma or cataracts. If you can find these problems at an early stage, there is a better probability of getting them cured, and preventing loss of vision.
